Is it possible for a well-respected publication to jump the shark?

After wrapping up a broadcast from Woods Supermarket in Fort Scott Saturday, I said my thank yous to the Manager and staff, and was heading back out of the store, but was forced to stop dead in my tracks. I was in the magazine aisle, and could not believe my eyes. That can't be... on the COVER of THAT magazine???




PARIS HILTON?!?!?!? PARIS FREAKING HILTON?!?!?! On the cover of NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC?

If I had a subscription, I would have canceled it on the spot.
